Reciting the Fatiha prayer next to the graves of our loved ones is not only a pleasant tradition, but also an opportunity to renew our covenant with God, seek forgiveness for them, and console ourselves. In the following, we are going to introduce a text of the Fatiha prayer for the deceased to say the Fatiha at the funeral ceremony, which is highly recommended.
In the name of Allah, the Merciful
O Allah, forgive the believers, the believers, the Muslims, and the Muslims, their resurrection and the dead.
May God forgive the believing and Muslim men and women, both living and dead
Dependency between us and between them with good deeds
The bond between us and them to charity
You are the answerer of prayers, You are the forgiver of sins and sins.
It is true that you answer prayers, it is true that you forgive mistakes
And indeed, over all things, He is capable of the sanctity of Al-Fatihah with prayers.
It is true that you are capable of anything
In some hadiths and narrations, Surah Yas is mentioned as one of the most experienced surahs, whose recitation is recommended for the people of graves and to benefit from the blessings of this surah. The Prophet of Islam (PBUH) also says: “Do not forget your dead who are resting in the graves. Your dead hope for your favor. Your dead are imprisoned and desire your good deeds. They don’t have the power to do anything themselves, you give them charity and prayers.”
It has also been narrated from Imam Reza (AS) that whoever visits the grave of a believer and next to it 7 times Surah Qadr read, God will forgive him and the owner of the grave.
In general, the following surahs are recommended for gifts to the people of graves:
- Surah Fatiha
- Surah Yes
- Surah Safat
- Surah Tabarak
- Surah Ahzab
- Surahs Nas and Falaq
- Ayat al-Kursi
Also, it has been narrated that anyone in the cemetery, Surah Yes If he recites it, the punishment of the people of the graves of that cemetery will be reduced, and the reward will be written for the reciter according to the number of the dead, and the troubles of this world and the punishments of the hereafter will be warded off from him. That is why this surah is also called “Repulsion”. However, Surah “Yes” is read by other names such as Azizah, Maamma, and Qazieh.
Experienced prayer while visiting the cemetery
Reading Dua and Fatiha is a kind of spiritual communication with the dead and helps people not to forget them. This practice can also help relieve the pain and suffering of the survivors. Imam Sadiq (a.s.) says: “The people of the cemetery will feel your presence and be happy about it and get along with you.” In regards to greeting the people of the graves, they say that you should do the following when entering the cemetery and say:
Peace be upon the people of the land, from the believers, the believers, the Muslims, and the Muslims. God willing
Greetings to the people of these houses from believing and Muslim men and women. You are a pioneer for us and we will join you soon, God willing
They also say to pray for the dead in the cemetery like this:
O Allah, make the earth dry from their south and ascend to You their souls and meet them with pleasure and make them dwell Your mercy does not reach their unity and their terror, for you are all-powerful.
God! Separate the earth from their bodies and raise their souls towards you and give them satisfaction from your side and give them something out of your mercy that will remove their loneliness and calm their fear. It is true that you are capable of anything
Then sit facing the Qiblah and recite Surah Hamad, Qadr or any other Surah for the dead.
In the end, visiting the graves and reciting Fatiha for the dead is not just a ritual, but an opportunity to renew our covenant with God, remind us of death and life after death, and strengthen our bond with our lost loved ones. Don’t forget that by reciting the Fatiha prayer, we not only make the souls of the dead happy, but also comfort our own hearts. Remember that death is not the end of the road, but the beginning of a new journey. By praying for the dead, we can help them find comfort in that journey.
