General Joseph Aoun was born on January 10, 1964 in an average family. There is not much information about the family and parents of this figure published in the media. After completing secondary education, Joseph Aoun entered the army and due to his military skills, he was soon able to be appointed to important positions and command various units until he was chosen as the commander of the Lebanese army in 2017. This was what determined the path of Joseph Aoun’s life.

Joseph Aoun completed his secondary education at Friars Mont LaSalle College and after entering the army in 2007, he entered the American University of Lebanon to continue his undergraduate studies in political science and international affairs. Lebanon did not have a president for two years after the end of Michel Aoun’s presidency. However, contrary to popular opinion, Hezbollah played a role in Lebanon’s exit from the presidential crisis, and without Hezbollah’s positive opinion, it was impossible to elect Joseph Aoun to the position of Lebanon’s president. The logical position of the representatives of Hezbollah and the Amal movement in the parliament session increased the number of votes of General Joseph Aoun from 71 to 99 so that Lebanon recognizes its new president.

Finally, Joseph Aoun was elected as the new president of the country with the vote of the Lebanese parliamentarians in the second round. In the first round of parliamentary voting, which was accompanied by intense verbal tensions, he could not get two-thirds of the required votes, but on Thursday, January 9, 2025, General Joseph registered his name as the president of Lebanon by obtaining 99 votes out of 128 votes in the parliamentary seats.
Joseph Aoun and relations with America
Joseph Aoun is supported by the United States, and the reason for this is the dependence of the Lebanese army on the United States. Nevertheless, the new president of Lebanon has always acted impartially and professionally in various issues, and despite the numerous movements of some media inside and outside of Lebanon to incite the army against the resistance, he has never taken a step in opposition to Hezbollah, and his professional positions and has adopted a rationale for resistance. Even during Hezbollah’s war with the Zionist regime, this figure did not accept any action against the path of resistance and always emphasized on harmony with it. These decisions have made General Joseph Aoun a popular figure in Lebanese public gatherings.
