Yalda night is the last night of the beautiful autumn season and the longest night of the year, although not very long, but only for a minute or sometimes even less than that, this night is longer than other nights.
This year, like previous years, a celebration was held in the school on the occasion of Yalda night, and all the children had a great time. I was a member of the drama group for this program, and some children were members of the hymn group and other programs…
The school authorities and teachers of all classes had prepared things to welcome the students and decorated them in a beautiful way, and for this occasion, they had placed a large table in the middle of the school’s prayer hall and arranged all kinds of delicious food on it. Among these foods were pomegranates, whose large and red seeds flashed at us from afar, and watermelon, nuts, and sweets were also displayed on the table.
That day, after a detailed program at school, we finally went home, and I knew that on Yalda night, like every other year, we were all guests at our grandparents’ house.
After resting for a while, we went to our grandmother’s house with our parents, on the way we bought a cake in the shape of a sliced watermelon, and a little later we rang the doorbell of the grandfather’s house and received a warm welcome from him.
After entering the house, I joined the grand father’s other grandchildren, who had all arrived there before us, and we started playing and playing mischief.
After an hour when we got tired of the game and came to the reception, everything was ready for the Yalda night.
A large bowl of seeded pomegranates filled with sunflowers, a watermelon with a beautiful flower pattern on it, and a bowl full of fruits and nuts in the middle of the table, and a book with Diwan Hafez written on it. And as always, it was in the hands of the great father.
Every year on the night of Yalda, he used to get horoscopes for all of us, and he didn’t forget us children either. Grandfather, with his usual smile, asked us to make an intention so that he could get our fortunes, and then he started reciting a beautiful poem. He protected the Diwan.
My kind grandmother, as she always prepares vegetable pilaf and fish for Yalda night, had prepared vegetable pilaf and fish that night, and its pleasant smell filled the whole house.
That night, by the time we came to our senses, it was past midnight and we had not felt the passing of the minutes at all, after talking and laughing and playing and eating delicious food and being with our grandparents, we returned home. And we waited for another Yalda night and a whole lot of happiness.
